Florida Man visits Retro City Arcade in Lake City
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - On this installment of Florida Man Adventures we got it made here in Lake City. We are going to be hitting the arcade and grabbing a slice with Retro City Arcade. Lets check it out.
The lights and sounds of the arcade are something that all kids grow up loving, but this local arcade is taking you back, way back to the 80's and 90's. Retro City Arcade and Pizzeria is the prefect mix of nostalgia and fun. With pop culture galore, and the most radical toys of the day all over the walls, it is easy to go back in time. Opening Retro City has been a lifelong dream.
"Growing up I worked at a pizzeria in New York, it was across from a high school we would always get a high school lunch rush and there was nothing for the kids to do, we had a back area about as big as this I always told the owner you need to put games in there you need to put games in there and he always blew me off even though it never got used. So I said when I get older I'm going to open my own pizzeria with a few games," said Justin Jotso. And boy do they have a lot of games: Skee-Ball, standup games, and classic racing are all here. They even have a new outdoor area for live music on the weekends.
One price gets you a wrist band and you can play until you drop, no quarters needed. "I believe we have 45 games we are getting ready to cycle some of the bigger and older games out and we will be adding a few." The pizzeria has fresh pies made to order, and they have a giant selection of drinks for everyone. Giving people a fun safe place to come have fun was always Retro City's goal, and seeing the excitement at the arcade is what keeps everyone coming back for more. "The people that grew up with this are now the generation that have kids.
So they might know about it but it is nice to see parents come in and sometimes get more excited then the kids." Parents have the upper hand on a lot of the games they grew up playing, and it is always fun to show the kids who's the boss. "It is nice to see the parents come in and teach the kids how to play these older games that they have only heard about or have only seen on their home consoles."
