The Legend Of Zelda Meets Studio Ghibli In Jaw-Dropping New Open-World RPG

Paul Farrelly is a Contributing Writer for Screen Rant's Gaming section and the founder of GeekGasm.org, a site dedicated to celebrating all things gaming, from triple A blockbusters to weird and wonderful indie hits. Based in Louth, Ireland, Paul has spent years writing about games, pop culture, and tech, turning his lifelong love of gaming into a career that lets him talk (probably too much) about what makes this industry so endlessly fascinating. He's previously written and collaborated with several entertainment outlets, including LADbible, gaining a wide perspective on how gaming fits into today's pop culture conversation. His work blends genuine enthusiasm with thoughtful analysis, exploring how design, storytelling, and community have made gaming one of the most creative mediums around.

When he's not glued to a controller or keyboard, Paul's usually spinning vinyl, plotting his next horror marathon, or debating which Resident Evil entry really reigns supreme. Few games can capture that lightning in a bottle experience that makes it a truly magical experience. Even fewer can blend two genres together and produce something wonderful. The team at CyanCook Games seem to want to do just that by combining the glorious magical visuals of a Studio Ghibli adventure like Spirited Away or My Neighbor Totoro and combining them with a sprawling The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild-style adventure game where you craft and explore to survive.

A quick glance at the game trailers over on Steam though, show off an upcoming adventure that might just pull off the impossible. The developers are promising an adventure that invites curiosity. A dream-like experience that rewards exploration and presents a living, breathing, vibrant world filled with mysteries and ancient eastern mythology. This Upcoming Open-World RPG Is One For Zelda Fans Shape Your Own Legendary Adventure Of Peaks and Tides from CyanCook Games promises an open-world survival crafting game where you can play solo or online with friends.

This physics-based adventure will set you on a course to restore the realm that has been devastated by divine wrath. Shifting seasons and dramatic weather cycles can either help or hinder your quest as the world around you reacts to your decisions. Will you bluntly force your way through enemies or use the elements to tip the scales in your favor? There are no wrong answers in Of Peaks and Tides.

Similar to Breath of the Wild, the game wants you to make your own choices and come up with solutions to problems that are unique to you. If the physics-based puzzles and combat work as well as they do in recent Zelda games, then we're all in for a treat. Of Peaks and Tides actively encourages players to break the rules and become their own legend. As we celebrate 40 years of Zelda, this feels like an unexpected Zelda game from a new developer.

Of Peaks And Tides Looks Gorgeous Hayao Miyazaki Magic Even from the far too brief announcement trailer, it's clear that Of Peaks and Tides is stunning. The lush green rolling hills and gorgeous weather effects look like they've been lifted straight from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, while the beautiful animations of the furry mythical creatures wouldn't look out of place in a Miyazaki animation. Nature looks to play a big part in the game and seeing the combination of gorgeous flora and magical fauna on display is enough to warm even the coldest heart. You play as a Noland, a wanderer beneath fractured heavens.

It's up to you to discover long-hidden divine relics and battle mystical creatures as you seek to rebuild the world anew. Fight, craft, build, survive and thrive alone or with friends. Stand tall in defiance of the old Gods and shape your own destiny in this beautiful adventure. While we wait for a Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, this might just be the next best thing.

The visuals alone show a promising start, at least, but can it truly compete with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild? If its living world is as rich as it's promising...we're definitely in for a truly special gaming experience that even hardcore Zelda fans can fall in love with.
